The first step in connecting with God is salvation. The Bible begins in Genesis 3 with a problem. Within the first few pages it is revealed that humanity is now separated from God by sin. Although we try by religious deeds and rituals to reconnect with God, all such efforts are hopeless.

So, how can you connect with God and be saved from your sin? How can you have a personal relationship with God?

Realize that you are a sinner.

No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a good enough person to deserve heaven or a relationship with God. That is because we are all sinners. Romans 3:12 says, "No one is good—not even one." We cannot become the purposeful and fulfilled person we were created to be without a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.

We are told in Romans 5:8 that "God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while were still sinners." This is the Good News: that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we didn’t deserve it.

Repent of your sin.

Acts 3:19 tells us, "Repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away." The word repent means to change our direction in life. Instead of running from God, turn and run toward Him.

Receive Jesus Christ into your life.

Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church. It is inviting Christ Himself to take residence in your heart and daily life. Jesus said in Revelation 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in . . ." If you would like to have a relationship with Christ, simply pray this prayer with a sincere heart:

"Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You are God and You died for my sins on the cross and rose from the dead. Right now, I turn away from my sins and give You control of my life. I unashamedly claim You as my Savior and Master. Thank You for saving me. Amen."

Next Steps

If you prayed that prayer and truly meant it in your heart, you are now a born again believer in Jesus! You are saved! Congratulations and welcome to the family of God! You may be wondering what to do next? Here are some next steps.

Read the Bible! This is one of the most important things to do to grow in your new relationship with God. A great book to start with is the Gospel of John.

Pray daily! It's so important that we pray. Talk to God. Get to know Him. Spend time talking to Him throughout the day. Be sure to be still and listen for Him to speak to your heart.

Attend church regularly! It's important to find other Christians that can encourage you in your new relationship with God. If you live in the area we would love for you to be a part of our fellowship here at Calvary Chapel Connection! Check out our service times.

Lastly, talk to someone! Please do contact us so we can rejoice with you and encourage each other the lifestyle of following Jesus together.

Blessings,
